OVERVIEW

This course is designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills and attitude to confidently work in the area of Healthcare. The course enables students to work as a Healthcare Assistant in Hospitals, Retirement Homes and in the community. This is a mandatory course for all Healthcare Assistants. All mandatory modules required for employment by the HSE are offered on this course.

  • Safety and Health at Work
  • Nutrition
  • Human Growth and Development
  • Palliative Care Support
  • Care of the Older Person
  • Occupational First Aid

Entry requirements

Education: NFQ Level 4 or equivalent when accessing a Level 5 programme. CERFL proficiency at B2 for access to Level 5 courses for those whose first language is not English Mature learner entry requirements available via the local ETB pathway Additional requirements may apply to non-EU/EEA Applicants and may be subject to full international fees
Aptitude: Applicants must have a motivation to learn, an interest in the subject and the ability to acquire the knowledge, skills and competencies set out in the course.
Previous Experience: Applicants must be able to demonstrate a broad range of knowledge, skills and competencies relevant to the course and be able to exercise initiative and independence when carrying out course activities.

  • QQI Level 5 Healthcare Support

  • Occupational First Aid

  • Patient Moving & Handling Certificate

Course Fees

Course materials fee of €100. There are no exam or registration fees.

Progression

The full QQI level 5 award facilitates entry on a competitive basis to a range of third level institutions nationwide. Further details are available from relevant institutions
