Equine Studies – Horsemanship

OVERVIEW

This course is designed to give students a thorough grounding in all aspects of Equine Care. The theoretical knowledge gained in the classroom is reinforced and developed during many hands-on learning field trips to Equestrian Centers, Veterinary Clinics, stud farms and Racing yards. The emphasis on ‘hands-on’ practical experience, together with the specialisation in Equine Anatomy and Physiology, sports horse riding and instruction, Veterinary assisting, work experience and more equips graduates with the necessary skills for employment in a wide variety of positions in the Horse Industry, or further education to our Level 6 Advanced horsemanship course, including a “Start Your Own Business” module that provides valuable insights into starting your own business and how to “grow” an existing business.

Possible Career Paths

Possible career paths are Equestrian Centre Manager, Equestrian Centre Assistant, Groom, Stud Farm Assistant

Entry requirements

Education: NFQ Level 4 or equivalent when accessing a Level 5 programme. CERFL proficiency at B2 for access to Level 5 courses for those whose first language is not English Mature learner entry requirements available via the local ETB pathway Additional requirements may apply to non-EU/EEA Applicants and may be subject to full international fees
Aptitude: Applicants must have a motivation to learn, an interest in the subject and the ability to acquire the knowledge, skills and competencies set out in the course.
Previous Experience: Applicants must be able to demonstrate a broad range of knowledge, skills and competencies relevant to the course and be able to exercise initiative and independence when carrying out course activities.

  • QQI Level 5 in Horsemanship

Course Fees

Course materials fee of €200. There are no exam or registration fees.

Progression

The full QQI level 5 award facilitates entry on a competitive basis to a range of third level institutions nationwide. Further details are available from relevant institution.
