OVERVIEW

This course will be of interest to students who intend to pursue a career in Nursing. Students receive a comprehensive introduction to all aspects of nursing from essential nursing practices to specialised care. Development of practical skills and personal qualities is emphasised to equip students for further studies in nursing. Students will be given an opportunity to observe and participate in direct nursing care as part of the work Experience module. This course is delivered by a highly qualified and experienced Nurse Tutor. Emphasis is placed on specialist clinical modules.

  • Care of the Older Person
  • Occupational First Aid

  • Infection Prevention and Control

Entry requirements

Education: NFQ Level 4 or equivalent when accessing a Level 5 programme. CERFL proficiency at B2 for access to Level 5 courses for those whose first language is not English Mature learner entry requirements available via the local ETB pathway Additional requirements may apply to non-EU/EEA Applicants and may be subject to full international fees
Aptitude: Applicants must have a motivation to learn, an interest in the subject and the ability to acquire the knowledge, skills and competencies set out in the course.
Previous Experience: Applicants must be able to demonstrate a broad range of knowledge, skills and competencies relevant to the course and be able to exercise initiative and independence when carrying out course activities.

  • Patient Moving and Handling

Course Fees

Course materials fee of €100. There are no exam or registration fees.

Progression

Students may progress to further study of General Nursing, Mental Health Nursing or Intellectual Disabilities Nursing in many Universities or Institutes of Technology. Refer to the Higher Education Links Scheme (HELS). Employment opportunities include work as a Healthcare Assistant in a variety of Healthcare facilities.
