Duration: 1 year
This one year course is aimed at students interested in pursuing a career as a physiotherapy assistant.
A physiotherapy assistant works with a chartered physiotherapist to assess and treat clients whose movements is restricted by injury, illness or age. They implement the therapy programme created by a physiotherapist and support the client in restoring or improving their mobility.
This course enables students to gain an understanding of the principles and practices of rehabilitation to assist in the care of the individual with a Spinal Cord Injury, Brain Injury or Limb absence. Through practice, the Physiotherapy Assistant becomes skilled in the therapeutic handling of patients in a range of physiotherapy interventions.
A selection of modules are offered from the following:
- Care support
- Physiotherapy assistant theory
- Physiotherapy assistant skills
- Body massage and figure analysis
- Infection prevention and control
- Care skills
- Anatomy and physiology
- Work experience
Applicants should have Leaving Certificate or Leaving Certificate Applied. These entry requirements may be waived in some instances, particularly to those with relevant experience. Applicants will be interviewed
